Ooh LaLa Baby - Baby Dolls #1 on Mel's Current Top 20

Ooh LaLa Baby - Baby Dolls #1 on Mel's Current Top 20

Ooh LaLa Baby is an upbeat, flirtatious, and lighthearted party anthem by way of the Philippines featuring the dance group Baby Dolls. They have recently become very popular because of this song and the TV program they are associated with ABS-CBN TV show It's Showtime.

Designed specifically for high-energy choreography and TikTok dance trends, its main theme revolves around having fun on the dance floor, captivating someone's attention with stylish moves, and making everyone exclaim "Oooh lala, baby!" as they watch. The track blends vibrant Tagalog pop phrasing with repetitive, infectious hooks to get people up and moving.

The song was released in March with the video only being released in late July. While the record has not exactly burned up most charts, it has spurned countless imitation and tribute, viral videos done by hundreds of groups and individuals mostly in the Philippines. Go to TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, it is likely you'll run into one of these.

Give this lighthearted fun, hit a spin. You'll easily overlook non-English, Tagalog lyrics and fall for the infectious groove.

For the Week of September 12 to 19, here are my Current Top 20.

It's #1 on Mel's Current Top 20.

Mollie Elizabeth • Run Rabbit

Gotta love this quirky indie pop hit from Mollie Elizabeth. It's been climbing up my chart for a month and made it to #1last week. The song is a growing viral hit with several people and the artist herself creating YouTube Shorts and TikToks on social media. "Run Rabbit" deserves to be a bigger hit.

Who is Mollie Elizabeth? Never heard of her until "Run Rabbit" was released in May. Gemini AI has this to say about her.

Mollie Elizabeth has been making massive waves in the alt-pop and indie scenes with her cinematic, dark-fairytale sound.  Key Details About Mollie Elizabeth

Real Name: She performs under her actual first and middle name, Mollie Elizabeth. On social media, she is also well-known by her handle, doeyedfairie.

Where She Is From: She hails from the Cascade Range in Washington State and grew up just outside of Seattle. Her upbringing in the Pacific Northwest woods heavily inspires the atmospheric, "tiny worlds" she creates in her music.

Age: She is 22 years old (born in 2003).

Musical Journey: She has been active professionally since 2024, meaning she has been officially releasing music for about two years. She first gained major internet traction in January 2025 with her viral debut single "Vegas Venetian", which led to her signing with Neon Gold Records. She followed that up with her debut EP, Dirty Blonde, in late 2025, before dropping her massive viral hit "Run Rabbit" in May 2026.

CHART NOTES

Alex Warren holds at #1 for a 6th straight week with "Ordinary." In addition, his latest track, a duet with BLACKPINK's Rosé, debuts on the Top 20 at #16, with a third single, "On My Own". Meanwhile, "Burning Down" moving up 5 points to #12.

"On My Own" also marks Rosé's third single in the top 20 as she is currently charting with her worldwide smash hit "APT." (@ #4) with Bruno Mars, and also on her own with "Messy" (@ #5) from the F1® The Movie soundtrack. The video for "On My Mind" appear at the top of this post.

Lewis Capaldi is back with a brand new song. "Survive" bows in at #17. An article on iHeartRadio's site states: "Following an extended hiatus from music, Lewis's new song details his urge to 'survive' after quitting the business to focus on his mental and physical health."

Ed Sheeran is an artist that now has four tracks in the Top 20. "Azizam," Sheeran's former #1 song from earlier this year moves up a spot from last week's #4 to #3. Two other tracks, "Old Phone" and "Sapphire" both move up to #10 and #13 respectively. The newest song "Drive" debuts at #18 and also comes from the soundtrack of F1® The Movie.

At #19 we find Australia's Fanny Lumsden who is covering fellow Aussie Gotye's hit "Someone That I Used to Know." The track has been percolating on the lower, unseen rungs of this Top 20 chart. Good cover.

Finally at #20, we have The Rolling Stones who are back with a new recording called "Zydeco Sont Pas Salés" which is a tribute to the Zydeco genre sung entirely in French by Mick Jagger.

CHART NOTES

"Ordinary" by Alex Warren holds at #1 for a 5th week in a row. Halfway through the year, we've had three songs holding on to #1 for more than 4 weeks now, which doesn't leave much space for other songs to hit the top.

Only one song debuts on the chart this week. "Sapphire" is the latest single by Ed Sheeran to chart. It's at #20 while Ed's two other tracks are posted at #12, "Old Phone" and #4 "Azizam," which is a former #1 record.

A couple more videos appear below:

Iam Tongi's "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" from the Lilo & Stitch movie soundtrack moves up to #9 this week.

Marina's "Butterfly" moved from last week's #20 debut position to #13 this week. The track is off her new album Princess of Power.

This week's Current Top 20 can be heard on Spotify! It is presented in countdown mode, starting at #20 and counting down to #1.

Best of 2023: The Beatles Now And Then

The Last Song by The Beatles

"Now And Then", the song recorded by The Beatles was released on November 2. The song written by John Lennon was given to Paul McCartney by Yoko Ono, John's widow in 1994 along with the songs "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love".

In 1994 George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney worked on the three songs releasing two of them on the Anthology I and Anthology II albums that came out in 1995 and 1996. "Now And Then" laid on the back burner for more than 25 years due to technical reasons. You can learn more about "Now And Then" by watching the short video documentary below:

"Now And Then" made its debut on my Current Top 20 chart at #3 on November 3. By the next week it jumped to #1, replacing "Angry" by The Rolling Stones at that position. "Now And Then" has been the #1 song on my Current Top 20 for the four weeks now. The latest chart as of December 1 is shown below.

"Now And Then" is one of my favorite songs of 2023 and we'll see where it ends up in my end of the year Top 100 for 2023.

The Rolling Stones Angry Comeback

The Rolling Stones Are Not Angry

They are happy for “Angry”... the first single off their new, upcoming album Hackney Diamonds, scheduled for release this coming Friday, October 20.

The Rolling Stones hit song “Angry”, the first single off Hackney Diamonds, is holding the #1 position for the sixth consecutive week on Mel’s Current Top 20 chart. It shows no signs of slowing down.

It’s worth noting that “Angry” made an impressive debut at #1 six weeks ago and has maintained its top spot ever since. This achievement is particularly noteworthy because no other song has ever debuted at #1 on the Current Top 20, except for The Rolling Stones’ 2020 hit “Living in a Ghost Town.” At that time, the chart was reset after a few years of inactivity.

This week’s Current Top 20 features an impressive lineup of rock tracks, with five of them claiming spots in the Top 5. Alongside “Angry” at #1, we have The Linda Lindas “Resolution/Revolution” at #2, Stephen Sanchez’s “Be More” at #3, U2’s “Atomic City” at #4, and The Dollyrots’ “Night Owl” at #5. This abundance of rock hits in the top 5 is a rare occurrence for the chart.

In addition to “Angry”, The Rolling Stones also placed the second single, “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” on the chart last week, debuting at #18. This week the song moved up to #14. Accompanied by Lady Gaga on additional vocals and Stevie Wonder on keyboards, “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” is destined for the Top 10 on Mel’s Current Top 20 chart.

Some fresh additions to the Current Top 20 include *NSYNC’s “Better Place” debuting at #19 and Lauren Daigle’s “These Are The Days” entering at #20. These new singles bring a fresh dynamic to the chart and offer listeners a diverse range of musical styles.

Overall, The Rolling Stones’ “Angry” continues to reign supreme on Mel’s Current Top 20 playlist, showcasing the band’s enduring popularity. With a strong presence of rock hits in the top 5, this week’s chart reflects the diverse musical landscape and the ongoing evolution of the chart.

In the meantime the wait is almost over for their new Hackney Diamonds album.

The Return of Mel's Current Top 20

 Mel's Current Top 20 | As of May 27, 2023.

Welcome to the resumption of weekly postings of Mel's Current Top 20 Chart. I've been doing personal charts of current pop and rock music for some years now and have occasionally posted them to this blog. Since 2020, the Current Top 20 has been regularly posted to the M4B Chart Central website. Prior to that a previous incarnation of these charts were posted there starting around 2009.

I love lists. Ranking favorite songs, movies, TV shows, cars, etc... overall and by genre. On this blog's pages you can see a music chart for both pop/rock music and a separate one for country music.
Through the years, special charts have been posted on favorite artists such as The Beatles and charts for the Christmas holiday season.

Now I'm bringing the weekly Current Top 20 chart back to these pages. Enjoy.

CHART NOTES

Cannons hold at #1 for a second week with "Hurricane," a track from their album Fever Dream. Lady Gaga's former #1 hit "Hold My Hand" from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack album holds at #2 this week.

As stated at the top of this post Rina Sawayama released a new video to her current hit "This Hell, " which moves up this chart from #13 to #10.

One of my favorite new songs this week is "Catalonia" by Vance Joy making its debut at #19.

Our second debut song is more than 30 years old. The Netflix TV series Stranger Things which I have never watched is responsible for the revival of this great oldie from Kate Bush... "Running Up That Hill" makes a very late debut to this chart just like the revival of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" back in 2020. "Running Up That Hill" originally came out in 1985. Wow!

I am all for old songs making a chart comeback when new audiences discover them.

Lady Gaga Holds At #1 With
Top Gun Maverick Ballad

I haven't done one of these in a while. There is a page with a weekly rolling chart, but for the record I just want to start resuming (again) the weekly chart posting. A lot of the older charts that I have posted are archived at the M4B Personal Chart site under my username macprohawaii. I have been posting personal charts off and on for quite a lot of years, first on paper and then later online. The old paper charts were long ago tossed, before the internet became a thing.

Here is the chart for this week.

Since my last report, the #1 song has changed several times in the past few months. The current #1 song is from the Top Gun Maverick soundtrack. It has been #1 on this chart for three weeks in a row. That song s "Hold My Hand" from Lady Gaga.

The video for the song appears at the top of this posting.

The only debut song to the chart is "No One Dies From Love" by Tove Lo at #19. The video for that is below.
