CHART NOTES

Daft Punk holds at the #1 spot for the 8th non-consecutive week with "Get Lucky" featuring both Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers who used to be with the group Chic back in the late 1970s. This is the song's 2nd week at #1 for this run. It was at #1 for 6 weeks prioer to falling to #2 and #3 for a couple of months before returning to #1 last week. I found Daft Punk's CD Random Access Memories at a used CD store for $5 this past week. It's a good CD and may have one or two more hits pulled from it.

"Roar" by Katy Perry makes a huge jump this week from its debut of #17 to #4. Wow! The song is almost definitely headed for #1.

Several other songs have made some signifcant moves up the chart, while several others have fallen quite hard.

Risers: "Burn" by Ellie Goulding up from #6 to #3; "Brave" by Sara Bareilles from #9 to #5; "Liquid Lunch" from Caro Emerald, up from #10 to #6; and "Home Again" by Elton John up from #16 to #12.

Droppers: They include "Treasure" from Bruno Mars down from #3 to #7; "Waves" by Blondfire down from #5 to #9 - both of these are former #1 records. Also taking a significant drop is "Pompeii" by Bastille - plunging from #7 to #18. "Wasting All These Tears" by Cassandra Pope tumbles from #13 to #19.

Maroon 5 seems to have hit its peak with their latest single. "Love Somebody" got as high as #11 last week, but drops now to #13 this week.

All of the dropping records will be making room for new entries as we transit out of summer and into the fall of 2013. Our first new "fall" record is by Lady Gaga who debuts this week at #20 with "Applause".

CHART NOTES

Holy crapollie! Daft Punk is back at #1 with the same song they went to #1 with more than 2 months ago. Yes, I'm talking about "Get Lucky" which held the top spot for 6 consecutive weeks early this summer before slipping back to #2 and #3 where it shallowed out for the last 6 weeks before moving to #2 last week. Now the song that featurs Pharrell Williams is back at #1 for a 7th non-consecutive week. This is my summer song of the year.

Pulling up at #2 we find One Direction's "Best Song Ever" jumping into that spot from last week's #6. Is #1 destined for One Direction? We'll see.

Two songs make their chart debut this week. They are "Roar" the latest from Katy Perry and "Wake Me Up" at #17, a dance track from Avicii at #20. How far up will these two songs go?

CHART NOTES

The posting is a few days late but still good to this Sunday, August 18. From the Weekly Top 20 web page:

Three new songs debut in the top 20 this week. Charting at #20 is Noah & The Whale with their latest "There Will Come a Time". Elton John is back with "Home Again" at #19 and newcomers Capital Cities debut at #18 with their single "Safe And Sound".

One of the fastest moving songs in this week's chart belongs to One Direction, whose latest single "Best Song Ever" jumps from #11 last week to #6 this week. This track will definitely be in the top 5 next week.

Not to be outdone in the big jump category, we also find Ellie Goulding picking up 6 moving from #16 to #10 this week with "Burn", her second single to hit the top 10 on this chart. She had a number song on this chart back in January with the single "Anything Could Happen."

Holding at #1 for a 3rd consecutive week is Bruno Mars and his latest single "Treasure". Moving up from #3 to #2 is Daft Punk and their hit "Get Lucky" which several weeks ago was at #1. Could this song be headed for the top again?
