CHART NOTES

Maroon 5 hits #1 this week. Yes, the group is on top with their latest "Payphone". Good song, good video, but when was the last time you actually used a payphone? Have you ever used a payphone? Are there payphones in your community?

Gotye drops from #1 to #4 this week with "Somebody That I Used To Know". This is after a 5 week stay at number one, 4 weeks consecutively, and then falling out to #2 two weeks ago and climbing back to the top last week. Now at #4. This song is probably on its slow way out. Features Kimbra. Interesting video.

One of my favorite songs on the top 20 is "Watching You Watch Him" by Eric Hutchinson. The single climbs up 2 from #4 to #2. Could number 1 be next?

Nicki Minaj's "Starships" moves up to #6 after several weeks at #7. She follows Adele on a one point jump. Adele's single "Rumour Has It" moves up to #5 after spending a few weeks at #6. Both good songs.

Fastest mover is by the group One Direction. Their debut single "What Makes You Beautiful" which came in at #17 last week makes a 7 point leap into the top 10 at #10 this week. One Direction is the latest in a long string of "boy band" types of groups. I think.

Good debuts: Two "good" songs make their chart debuts this week. The first one is "Good Girl" by Carrie Underwood at #18 and "Good Feeling" by rapper Flo Rida.

CHART NOTES

Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" nudges itself back to #1 after falling to #2 last week. This is the song's 5th week at #1 but not consecutively. Dropping out and back up to the top is a chart rarity here.

Meanwhile The Wanted's "Glad You Came" is definitely on a fall... after peaking at #1 last week, we find the single track at #5 with other songs moving into the top 5 or going higher. Most notable are "Payphone" by Maroon 5 at the #2 spot up from #5, and "Watchin You Watch Him" by Eric Hutchinson at #4 up from #9 of last week. Any of those 2 songs could be at the top soon.

Debuts include "What Makes You Beautiful" by One Direction at #17 and Karmin's "Brokenhearted" at #20.

CHART NOTES

We have a new track at the #1 spot. The Wanted inch their way pass Gotye to take the top spot on the Weekly Top 20 with their hit "Glad You Came". The Wanted is another in a long string of "boy bands" that are frequent visitors to the top 40 charts and radio the world over. The track is decent for a boy band. How long it will stay at #1 remains to be seen.

Maroon 5 breaks into the top 5 with their latest hit "Payphone". The track jumps up from #9 last week to #5 this week. It'll probably go higher.

Biggest mover of the week is Eric Hutchinson's "Watching You Watch Him" which makes a big jump from #16 of last week to #9 this week. Yep the song is in the top 10 in only it's third week on the chart. Keep watching this one.

The only debut song on the top 40 belongs to newcomer Alyssa Bonagura. It's got a great ukelele intro. The title of the song is "I Make My Own Sunshine" which makes it just in time for the summer season at #19.

CHART NOTES

Gotye is at #1 for a 4th consecutive week with his hit "Somebody That I Used to Know" with Kimbra.

Inching up to #2 we find The Wanted and "Glad You Came". Could they go to #1 with this. Come back next week.

The Wanted's move came at the expense of Katy Perry, whose latest single "Part of Me" has apparently peaked at #2 last week, falling back to #3 this week, just ahead of Train and their former #1 hit "Drive By" which holds at #4 for a second week.

The rest of the chart see some incremental movements of 1 or 2 points up or down, with several songs in a holding position. Breaking into the top 10 is Maroon 5 and their latest single "Payphone". That song moves up 2 from #11 to #9 this week.

Two songs make their chart debut. First we see Englebert Humperdinck (yes the old crooner is 76 years young) charting with a single called "Love Will Set You Free" at #19. The track is getting some airplay in Humperdinck's native U.K. since it is this year's Eurovision 2012 contest entry for the British Isles.

At #20 we find newcomer Haley Reinhart and her debut single "Free".

All in all we have a somewhat diverse chart consisting of songs that may not be on the mainstream and several that are current radio stalwarts. Enjoy.

CHART NOTES:

Gotye is at #1 for a third week with "Somebody That I Used to Know". The track also features Kimbra and is taken from his album Making Mirrors.

Nicki Minaj breaks into the top 10 with her single "Starships". The track is the first of any of her songs to chart here. It moves from #13 last week to #9 this week.

Fastest mover up the chart is "Payphone" by Maroon 5. The song leaps from #19 last week to #11 this week. Guaranteed to be in the top 10 next week.

The only song to debut this week is "Watching You Watching Him" by Eric Hutchinson at #20. This may turn out to be one of my favorite tracks of 2012. It's a catchy pop song with a nice video and good vibe. Easy on the ears... definite AC radio track, if it ever gets wide airplay. Was a freebie from iTunes last week.
