Justine Bennett "Heavy Feeling" @ #10

It is not too often that I celebrate a song that has so far peaked at #10. This one is worth mentioning and listening to by Justine Bennett. It's called "Heavy Feeling" and is out now on the Authentic Music label. Check out the song by clicking on the graphic above.

Neon Trees hold the #1 spot for the second week in a row with "Animal". The video sold me on this song when I saw it about 5 weeks ago on YouTube. It's still great today.

Nikki Yanofsky's "Cool My Heels" moves up a point from #3 to #2. Could be coming in at number 1 next week I think... "Pray For You" by Jaron and The Long Road to Love also moves up a point from #5 to #4, with Barenaked Ladies following behind, up from #6 to #5 with "Every Subway Car".

Hot risers this week are Katy Perry with Snoop Dog and their hit "California Gurls" up 4 points going from #11 to #7. The song is #1 on several charts. Also hot is Shakira moving from #19 to #12 with the "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" theme song to the ongoing World Cup Football (Soccer) games taking place in South Africa.

Caro Emerald is going back up not once but twice. Her former #1 song which sagged two weeks ago at #12 moved up to #10 last week and this week is back at #8. Meanwhile her second single "A Night Like This" makes its debut at #19.

La Roux returns to the Weekly Top 20 with a song that topped this chart last fall. "Bulletproof" is getting listed on a lot of charts these days and garnering a fair share of airplay, enough to have it re-chart here at #18. The song was last charted on December 27, 2009. It was #1 for a few weeks in November 2009.

CHART NOTES:

Neon Trees tops the chart at #1 with "Animal". The song moves up from #2 of last week. Made its climb in 4 weeks. We got a hit here!

Coming up strong at #3 is Nikki Yanofsky and her hit "Cool My Heels", a contemporary sounding jazz piece off her debut album. The song moves from #9 to #3. Quite a jump.

Also jumping high is Katy Perry. Her hit which is number 1 on numerous charts around the world, moves from last week's #19 spot to #11 this week. Way to go for "California Gurls".

One of my favorite songs from this year has got to be Caro Emerald's "Back It Up." The track went to #1 a few weeks ago on the Weekly Top 20. Two weeks ago it was at #8 and last week dropped to #12. This week the catchy song moves back up to #10. She has issued a new video for the track.

Another song that dropped last week and went back up this week is "Pray For You" by Jaron and The Long Road to Love. The song was at #6 last week, moves back up to #5 this week.

Debuting at #19 this week is Shakira with the African flavored "Waka Waka", which is the theme song for the World Cup Soccer playoffs.

CHART NOTES:

Smashing Pumpkins tops the chart this week with "A Stitch in Time," a downloadable track that is not officially released on any of their albums. The track is from an upcoming album that was supposed to be released this spring. Nevertheless the track has steadily climbed over the past weeks to finally put it into #1. Up from #2 last week "A Stitch is Time" replaces Taio Cruz's "Break My Heart" which falls to #3.

At #2 for the 4th week on the chart is "Animal" by Neon Trees. This group looks like they had fun making their music video (see below) for their debut single. The track moved up from #7 last week. Looks like a number one record in the making.

Katy Perry makes her 2010 chart debut with her neweest single "California Gurls" at #19. The track has already topped the charts on iTunes and I think even Amazon. It's a good pop record but I would not call it great. We'll see how it does on the Weekly Top 20. Also debuting is Weezer with their remake of the old Monkees hit, "I'm a Believer". The track debuts at #20 this week. It's from the Shrek 4 movie soundtrack. The group Smash Mouth did a similar remake for Shrek 2 back in 2001.

Taio Cruz has holds on to the #1 spot for the 2nd week with "Break Your Heart," Smashing Pumpkins hold to #2 with "A Stitch in Time" and Colbie Caillat holds to #3 with "I Never Told You".

Neon Trees break into the top 10 with "Animal". The track is in its third week on the weekly top 20 and has moved from its debut spot of #20 to #13 last week, and this week it's at #7.

Most of the other songs on the top 20 have either held their positions or moved up or down a few points. Only one debut this week, and that is at #20 for Pearl Jam and their track "Just Breathe." The song is a latecomer to the Weekly Top 20 as it has been around since the 4th quarter of 2009.
