CHART NOTES
Lady Antebellum is back at #1 with their smash hit "Need You Now". After dropping to number 2 and holding that position for the past 3 weeks, the hit single nudges its way to the top displacing Train's "Hey Soul Sister" which drops to #3. This is the 8th week at #1 for Lady Antebellum, the longest any song has held the top spot on my weekly chart.
Lady GaGa and Beyonce with their hit "Telephone" up 1 to #2.
Elsewhere on the chart, we got some movement in the ranks with some songs gaining and others falling. Big fall is Boys Like Girls, with "Two is Better Than One". The song which they enlisted Taylor Swift to sing on, takes a dive from #6 to #13. Ringo Starr breaks into the top 10 with "Walk With You". He is joined by Paul McCartney on this track which is taken from his latest album Y Not. A Fine Frenzy moves up 4 from #20 to #16 with "Blow Away".
Hot debut tracks include Caro Emerald's catchy jazz song "Back It Up" checking in at #17 and Lady Antebellum with "American Honey" at #18. Be sure to watch Caro's video. Wiping glasses never looked so sexy before.

CHART NOTES Train has the new #1 track this week. "Hey Soul Sister" displaces the long running "Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum at the top spot, moving there from the #2 slot last week. The latter moves down from #1 to #2. Both are great songs.
Elsewhere on the chart we got 3 new debut tracks including "Imma Be" by Black Eyed Peas, "Temporary Home" by Carrie Underwood and "Smile" by Uncle Kracker.
R.I.P. Doug Feiger
Doug Feiger, lead singer of The Knack passed away on February 14. He was 57 and succumbed to cancer. Sad. While The Knack's popularity was short lived, they will always be remembered for 1979's biggest power pop hit, "My Sharona." I think in modern power pop / new wave / alt rock history, no song was bigger than "My Sharona". It was #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 for 6 weeks.
The single was the lead off on side 2 of The Knack's debut album "Get the Knack" which also featured 10 other great songs such as "She's So Selfish", "Maybe Tonight," "Lucinda", "Oh Tara" and "Good Girls Don't."
I have the original album on vinyl as well as the single, "My Sharona". Back in the day when I did some "disco DJ" work, I'd play "My Sharona" at many dances just to break up the monotony of the same old beat. People either loved or hated the rock vibe that echoed on the dance floor. It was fun and signaled a change for music yet to come.
Years later I also bought the CD version of Get The Knack which was ripped into iTunes and is pictured above in this Apple coverflow sequence.

Lady Antebellum holds on to the #1 song spot for a 6th consecutive week with "Need You Now". Train's "Hey Soul Sister" is at #3 in its 3rd week, up from #6 last week. Lady GaGa follows train with "Telephone" also moving up 3 spots from #7 to #4. Her former number one song "Bad Romance" drops 2 from #3 to #5.

Lady Antebellum leads the charts again as "Need You Now" holds the #1 spot for a 4th consecutive week. Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova" still holds strong at #2 for another week while Boys Like Girls with Taylor Swift moves up four from #7 to #3 with "Two is Better Than One." Further down the chart we see more movement with Shinedown, The Script and Rihanna making gains. Three debut songs include "Hey, Soul Sister" from Train at #18, "Telephone" by Lady GaGa and Beyonce at #19, and the Dave Matthews Band at #20 with "You and Me."
WITHER THE SIXTYONE.COM
I am saddened to learn that with TheSixtyOne.com's new makeover that all of their embed files of independent, user chosen music published on external websites such as this blog, have all disappeared as of last week. The new makeover that the publishers gave to the place made it look like one giant iPod Touch with a user interface that is difficult to navigate, breaks many of the social aspects of the sites, and even links/comments to and from artist and fan pages. All of our favorites have apparently disappeared from site too which impacted the embed files placed on this blog.
As a result I probably will not be using TheSixtyOne.com very often even though I will keep my current membership and password there. The new site design is a low blow to finding, appreciating and most importantly saving, creating and publishing new and independent artist music and playlists that over the past 2 years contributed to the songs I listened to on my iPod and posted to my charts.
I'll continue to listen to, download and buy indie music that I like but probably not preview them through this TheSixtyOne.com until the U.I. is made more user friendly.

"Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum is my favorite current single now. The song tops the country chart and is a great pop-rock hit too. The song holds at #1 on Mel's Weekly Top 20 chart for the 3rd week in a row.

As we head out of 2009, we find no new debut songs on the Weekly Top 20. The number one song stays the same as last week... yes, Lady GaGa #1 for the 5th week in a row with "Bad Romance." Country music's Lady Antebellum is hot at #2 (up from #4) with "Need You Now" and Carrie Underwood has this week's big mover, "Cowboy Casanova" going from #19 to #9.

Lady GaGa holds strong at #1 for a 4th consecutive week with her smash hit, "Bad Romance". The song is off her album The Fame Monster, a current hot seller.
Country group Lady Antebellum gains momentum this week with "Need You Now". The huge crossover hit moves up 4 points from #8 to #4 this week. Also breaking into the top 5 is Rihanna and her single "Russian Roulette" moving up 1 from #6 to #5.
Flyleaf and Norah Jones break into the top 10 with their hits "Again" @ #10 and "Chasing Pirates" @ #11. Carrie Underwood's latest single "Cowboy Cassanova" is a late arrival to my personal chart. It is a great rockin' uptempo contemporary country song.
Carrie Underwood was the big winner of the 2005 season of American Idol. Today she has 3 top hit albums, several number 1 hit records including "Jesus Take the Wheel", "All American Girl" and "Before He Cheats".
Shinedown's rocker "If You Only Knew" debuts at #20. Their former #1 track "Second Chance" fell off the Weekly Top 20 this week after a long chart run.

Continuing Holding Pattern: The top 7 songs remain in their same spots as they were last week. Lady GaGa is #1 for the 3rd consecutive week with "Bad Romance". The only upward movement in the top 10 is Lady Antebellum who moves up one spot from #9 to #8 with the country rock ballad, "Need You Now."
Just below the top 10, the fastest climber this week is Norah Jones who moves up 8 points from #19 to #11 with "Chasing Pirates" off her new album The Fall. On the flipside looks like Green Day lost its momentum at #12 last week, falling to #19 with "East Jesus Nowhere."
The lone debut track is Green River Ordinance "Come On" entering at #20 this week.
