CHART NOTES

For the 5th consecutive week on the chart, Katy Perry holds at #1 with her latest track off the Teenage Dream album called "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." The song apparently has a lot of staying power. Will it hold on for another week. Return to find out!

Elsewhere on the this week's top 20:

Colbie Caillat moves from #4 to #3 with "Brighter Than the Sun".

Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera breaks into the top 5 by moving up 3 points from #8 to #5 with their latest single, "Moves Like Jagger".

The two year old dance track "Boys and Girls" by Martin Solveig & Dragonette move up 2 points from #9 to #7 this week. It's a very catchy track that I missed the first time round.
Another slightly older track makes a 5 point jump from #18 to #13 this week. That track is "Rope" by the Foo Fighters. It comes off their latest album, Wasting Light. A great hard rock song if I ever heard one.

Debuts this week include "Blackout" by Breathe Carolina at #19 and "Hawaiian Air" by Friendly Fire at #20. Good luck!

CHART NOTES

Katy Perry holds on to #1 for a 4th consecutive week with "Last Friday Night (TGIF)". The party song has held off all comers, and for me it is probably on the strength of its movie-like short video and that it is probably the best song I heard from her current album Teenage Dream.

Climbing to #2 is The Script with their late hit "For the First Time," up 2 points from #4 of last week. Could it go to #1?

New to the top 10 this week are Martin Solveig & Dragonette with their 2009 Euro-dance hit, "Boys and Girls" coming in at #9 up from #11. Following them is Dengue Fever with their latest Khmer language track, "Uku". It moves up to #10 from #12.

Songs making their debut this week include "Only Love" by Indonesian singer Anggun at #19 and "Rope" by The Foo Fighters at #18. We'll see how high these two different tracks go in the coming weeks.

CHART NOTES

The top 3 records on Mel's Weekly Top 20 remain the same as they have been for the past 3 weeks. For the third week in a row Katy Perry holds at #1 with "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"; Coldplay holds at #2 with "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" at #2, with Noah & the Whale holding at #3 with "Tonight's The Kind Of Night". The latter song is a former #1 record here.

Elsewhere the song making the strongest gain in the top 10 is Colbie Caillat's "Brighter Than The Sun" moving up 2 from #9 last week to #7 this week. Moving into the top 10 with a 2 point climb is "Moves Like Jagger" with Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguileria. That single moves in from #12 to #10.

There are 3 debut tracks on the Weekly Top 20. They include "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO coming in at #18. That song has been a listed at #1 on Billboard, Amazon and iTunes. Another song that has been kicking around for a while is "Young Blood" by The Naked & Famous. The group is from New Zealand and this record makes its debut after I caught their performance online at Lollapalooza this weekend. Good band. "Young Blood" was a #1 single in New Zealand. It shows up at #19 for the first time here.

Rounding out the 3 debut songs is a country track by The Band Perry. "If I Die Young" debuts at #20 this week. This song is already a big country and crossover hit.

Droppers include The Cars' "Sad Song" moving down from #6 to #9, The Smithereens' "Sorry" down from #10 to #15 and Dengue Fever down from #11 to #16 with "Cement Slippers" a former #1 song and the oldest track on the top 20. That song has been listed here since late February and held the #1 spot for 5 weeks this past spring.
