CHART NOTES

The Cars are on top again for the 2nd week in a row with "Sad Song". It's off their latest album Move Like This.

The top 5 almost belongs to Lady GaGa this week. She has two tracks in the top 5. First at #3 is her current single, "Judas" moving up one from #4, and at #4 "The Edge of Glory" moving up from #9 last week. Both tracks are from the album Born The Way. Could #1 be in the sight of either song?

Holding in the top 5 are two former #1 records. First off Martin Solveig & Dragonette hold at #2 for a second week after dropping from #1 two weeks ago. Dengue Fever is still going strong with "Cement Slippers," though somewhat slipping from #3 to #5. Both tracks held on to the #1 spot for 5 consecutive weeks each, making both the current record holders for longest stay at the top so far this year.

There are three debut singles this week. At #18 is Coldplay and "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" which is on sale at Amazon MP3 for 69¢. At #19 is the latest track by The Script. It's called "For the First Time". The Smithereens, a stalwart rock group from the late 80s and 1990s are back on the chart with "Sorry" at #20. This track is from their latest album 2011.

Recent Number One Songs:
  • Hello (Radio Edit) - Martin Solveig and Dragonette
  • Cement Slippers - Dengue Fever
  • Price Tag - Jessie J
  • Down By The Water - The Decemberists
  • Back to December - Taylor Swift

CHART NOTES

The Cars lead the pack this week with their new #1 song "Sad Song". The track was released as a single about a month and a half ago. It has made a steady track up the chart, debuting on May 1 at #18, moving up to #16, #11, #8 and #3 last week. Two points up and "Sad Song" is at #1 today. The Cars have released a new album titled Move Like This which features this song. I have yet to get it. The Cars are well known for being huge hit makers back in the late 1970s and 1980s with hits such as "Just What I Needed", "Let's Go," "Shake It Up," "Magic", "Drive", and "You Are The Girl." This is the band's first hit single since 1987.

Elsewhere on the chart there are no debut singles this week. All we got is movement and some major ones too.

Going Up: Lady GaGa and "The Edge of Glory" sprints from last week's debut at #18 to #9 this week. This is the third single taken from her just released album, Born This Way. Lady GaGa's second single off the same album "Judas" holds at #4 for a second week.

Following Ms. GaGa are Noah and the Whale, whose sceond single "Tonight's the Kind of Night" off the album Last Night on Earth, moves from #16 to #10 this week. Lady Antebellum moves up 3 points from #9 to #6 with their country crossover hit, "Just a Kiss". Lady Antebellum had 2010's song of the year with "Need You Now" that topped our Top 100 year end chart in late December.

Drops: Taking some dives are the songs "Just Can't Get Enough" by Black Eyed Peas at #20, former #1 "Price Tag" by Jessie J at #19, "Blue Skies Again" by Jessica Lea Mayfield down to #16 from last week's peak of #10 and Jennifer Lopez "On the Floor" sliding from #8 to #12 this week. Some of these songs will definitely fall off the chart by next week.
