CHART NOTES

Katy Perry keeps her single "Roar" on top of the chart for a 4th consecutive week. Capital Cities bumps up 1 position to take the #2 spot with "Safe and Sound". Elton John moves up again from #5 to #4 with his latest, "Home Again". His music video appears at the top of this post.

Lana Del Ray's "Summertime Sadness (Alternative Radio Mix)" moves into the top 10 from #11 to #9. This is her first top 1o hit in the WT 20. Up to now I have not been too big a fan of Del Ray's music. This one kind of breaks it out of the "boring" area for me. I like this mix.

New this week is "This is My Jam" by Relient K featuring Owl City at #19. The song is a tribute to past hits and artists from the 1990s. It reminds me somewhat of the Train album track "This'll Be My Year" which should have been released as a single. The other debut song on this week's chart if "Little Games" by The Colourist at #20.

CHART NOTES

"Roar" by Katy Perry holds the #1 spot for a 3rd consecutive week. Ellie Goulding's "Burn" holds at #2 for a second week. Will she go to #1 and replace Katy at the top? Find out next week.

Elton John lands his first top 5 hit in decades. "Home Again" from his forthcoming album The Diving Board moves up from #6 of last week to #5 this week. This is his most "classic era" sounding song in years, and prominently features Sir Elton on piano and vocals.

The fastest 2 rising songs this week belong to Lana Del Ray and her remix of "Summertime Sadness" moving up from #18 to #11 and Bastille's "Things We Lost in the Fire" up from #19 to #12. Both songs made their chart debut last week.

Speaking of debuts we find "Atlas" by Coldplay checking in at #19. The single is taken from the soundtrack album to The Hunger Games II which is expected in theaters later this year. At #20 we find the latest by Ricky Martin and "Come With Me" another in a long line of dance oriented pop hits. Martin is best known for his #1 hit of 1999, "Livin' la Vida Loca".

Fight For the Future - Time to Stop SOPA - Again

Once again our digital rights are in jeopardy. From the Fight for the Future site:

Hey,
Here’s an update on the new SOPA proposal. More than 30,000 people have already signed our petition to stop the new SOPA before it spreads. We need to get to 50,000 signatures before we deliver it to Obama next week. Only you can make that happen. Forward this email to everyone you know, and use the buttons to share:
Share on Facebook         Share on Twitter

Thanks to you, and tens of thousands of others who have already taken action, we’re hearing from our friends in DC that this latest attempt at internet censorship isn’t gaining a lot of traction.
But there are powerful interests who are spending millions of lobbying dollars to get SOPA-like legislation back on the table. We need to send a clear message to Obama *right now* that SOPA is not even an option to be discussed.
You can also share on Tumblr or Google+. Keep in touch with us. With the help of people like you we’ve been winning campaigns left and right to defend our basic rights and keep the Internet free. From CISPA to NSA surveillance to broken copyright laws, we’re fighting round the clock for your digital freedoms

Glad to have you on the team,

CHART NOTES

Katy Perry holds at #1 for a second week with "Roar". The new video also came out on Vevo last week and it is now displayed here. A new album is slated to come out next month I believe.

Ellie Goulding moves up one spot with "Burn" from #3 to #2. Could she go to #1? Stay tuned.

Capital Cities moves from #10 to #4 with "Safe and Sound". Caro Emerald moves into the top 5 with "Liquid Lunch", up from #6 to #5. Knocking on the top 5 is Elton John and "Home Again", moving up from #8 to #6.

Noah and the Whale moves up from #12 to #10 with "There Will Come a Time". Lady Gaga goes from #15 to #11 with "Applause". Daft Punk moves their latest single "Lose Yourself To Dance" up 6 points from #19 to #13 this week, while their recent #1 hit "Get Lucky" hangs in there at #3 again, after falling from last week's #2.

Three songs make their chart debut. At #18 we have Lana Del Ray and her alternative radio version of "Summertime Sadness"; moving into the #19 spot is Bastille's "Things We Lost in the Fire", their follow-up to "Pompeii". Finally at #20 we have this cover version of "We Can't Stop" by Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox. The track is a cover of a Miley Cyrus single that will not be making this chart. This one is better... it's done in a retro sounding, doo-wop style.

CHART NOTES

As expected, Katy Perry has taken the #1 spot away from Daft Punk as her latest single "Roar" jumps up from last week's #4 to be the top song of the week. It took Ms. Perry only 2 weeks to hit #1... Her path to the top: Debut @ #17, leaped to #4, and now #1. We'll see how long she stays at the peak.

As a result Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" slips back to #2 from #1... but nothing to be ashamed of... Daft Punk has spent all summer in the top 5, holding #1 for 8 weeks and sticking around at #2 and #3 for the entire season. Now the second single from their Random Access Memories album debuts on the Weekly Top 20 at #19. The title of the track is "Lose Yourself to Dance" and once again Pharrell Williams takes on the vocals. How high will this song go/

This week's other chart debut is "The Wire" by HAIM coming in at #20.

Elton John breaks into the top 10 coming in at #8 with "Home Again" moving up 4 points from last week's #12. "Home Again" is a ballad much like his early classics from the 1970s with Elton's vocals and piano playing front and center.

The song taking the biggest drop on the char this week is Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines". The song was one of those fast risers having reached #1 in only 2 weeks before slowly settling out of the top. This week's plunge can be attributed to the TV performance with Miley Cyrus on the MTV VMAs. I saw the video on YouTube. Miley certainly made a fool of herself. This one is collateral damage and punishment for a very, very bad video.
