Chaotic Five Rocks the House Again
Caught Chaotic Five again at Ala Moana Centerstage this past Saturday night, July 28. The band continues to improve and expand their selection of classic rock and metal music repertoire with covers of great hits that are decades older than them!
This time they covered Joan Jett's "I Love Rock n Roll", Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild", The Kinks/Van Halen's "You Really Got Me" and the expected Journey covers of "Anyway You Want It" and "Don't Stop Believin'". They finished last night's show with the heavy metal standard "Enter Sandman" which was originally done by Metallica in 1991. These and more were great songs to hear being played by a new generation of future rockers. Way to go Chaotic Five!

CHART NOTES
Adele tops the chart this week with "Set For To The Rain," her second single from the album21 to go to #1 on this chart. Granted the song is a late arrival here in comparison to other charts. Still it is a great song and worthy of the #1 position. Check the live video out of Adele's stunning performance at the top of this page. "Set Fire To The Rain" moves from last week's #3 to #1.
Matchbox Twenty's "She's So Mean" is on a huge move... again. This time it leaps from last week's #9 to #3 this week. It's definitely knocking on #1's door.
Also moving into the top 5 this week is Karmin with their hit "Brokenhearted". It's up 2 from #6 to #4.
The two debut songs to the cart is "Some Nights" by Fun at #19, and "Higher Than The Clouds" by Anuhea at #20.

Carly Rae Jepsen sits on top of the chart again for a 3rd consecutive week. The girl has staying power. She's been in the top 5 for at least 2 months now. Definitely this song is a bonafide if not bubblegummy hit. Gotta love it.
As a result Eric Hutchinson, whose record "Watching You Watch Him" has stalled out now at #2 for more than 5 weeks now. In fact the song did drop to #3 for a week but now is back at #2 for a second week. It was at #2 for about 3 weeks prior. This is a very good, pop record, ideal for AC radio... and yet, it has not received much airplay or chart action. Sad. The song is very good.
Matchbox Twenty makes a big leap this week with "She's So Mean" jumping from #17 of last week to #9 this week. Already a top 10 hit, could this song make it to number one? It's pretty good.
The Beach Boys have returned to the top 10 on Mel's Weekly Top 20 for the first time since 1988's "Kokomo". That song went to #3 way back then, when I used to keep this stuff on paper! Of course the song I am talking about that is the latest top 10 hit by The Beach Boys is "That's Why God Made the Radio" which climbs up from #12 to #10 this week. As most of you know, The Beach Boys with Brian Wilson is a legendary surf rock group known for their rich vocal harmonies. They don't disappoint on this record, which by the way, should also be getting more airplay and chart action around the world. The single as well as the album it comes from is very good, contemporary pop music for those who love songs with good vocals and harmonies.
Two country flavored songs make their chart debuts this week. At #19 we find Little Big Town with their #1 country hit "Pontoon" making a debut. At #20 is Matt Nathanson with his latest called "Run", a pop hit featuring country vocalist Jennifer Nettles and her band Sugarland. Sugarland as well as Nettles have made chart appearances here in the past.

Carly Rae Jepsen holds at #1 for a second week with "Call Me Maybe" 4 of the top 5 songs within the top 5 remain in the same places as they did last week. The only song entering the top 5 is Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" which climbs 2 from #6 to #4.
Carrie Underwood enters the top 10 at #10 with "Good Girl" up 1 from #11 last week.
The two debut songs this week include "Touched by the Hand of God" by Roxette at #20, and "50 Ways to Say Goodbye" by Train, entering at #19. That song replaces "Drive By", Train's huge #1 hit on this chart that exists after settling at #16 last week.
That song held the #1 spot for 7 weeks earlier this year. Will "50 Ways" go as high? That remains to be seen.
