WITHER THE SIXTYONE.COM
I am saddened to learn that with TheSixtyOne.com's new makeover that all of their embed files of independent, user chosen music published on external websites such as this blog, have all disappeared as of last week. The new makeover that the publishers gave to the place made it look like one giant iPod Touch with a user interface that is difficult to navigate, breaks many of the social aspects of the sites, and even links/comments to and from artist and fan pages. All of our favorites have apparently disappeared from site too which impacted the embed files placed on this blog.
As a result I probably will not be using TheSixtyOne.com very often even though I will keep my current membership and password there. The new site design is a low blow to finding, appreciating and most importantly saving, creating and publishing new and independent artist music and playlists that over the past 2 years contributed to the songs I listened to on my iPod and posted to my charts.
I'll continue to listen to, download and buy indie music that I like but probably not preview them through this TheSixtyOne.com until the U.I. is made more user friendly.

Lady Antebellum #1 for 3rd Week
"Need You Now" by Lady Antebellum is my favorite current single now. The song tops the country chart and is a great pop-rock hit too. The song holds at #1 on Mel's Weekly Top 20 chart for the 3rd week in a row.

Mel's Weekly Top 20 - Welcome 2010!
Mel's Weekly Top 20 is back after a two week hiatus. This week I've got 2 charts for you. Firs the current chart for the week of January 10, 2010 and next the first chart of the new year, January 3, 2010. On both charts Lady Antebellum tops the peak with their number 1 hit "Need You Now." If Lady Antebellum were not labeled a country band, they'd indeed have a bigger hit with this on the pop charts. Still a great new song to start the new year off.

Mel's Top 100 Hits of 2009
Before we catch up with 2010, one last look at 2009. Yes, it's Mel's Weekly Top 20's Top 100 Hits of 2009. The chart of course is determined by how my favorite songs fared on the weekly chart throughout the past year. Peak positions, weeks at the peak and overall chart run are factored into the ranking of each song. The songs are compiled and sorted on a spreadsheet using this criteria.
Not surprisingly, the song that spent the longest time at #1 and the longest number of weeks on the top 20 became my top song of the year. That honor went to Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Know" taken from their album titled, The End. It is an album that yielded at least 3 top 10 hits, the other 2 being "Boom Boom Pow" and "Meet Me Halfway."
This yearly chart reflects my musical tastes which range from adult contemporary hot hits, to some top 40, light rap with R&B, a heavy dose of adult alternative, rock and even country tracks.
Several independent artists and their tracks were big on my chart this past year.
They included Shannon Hurley who hit #1 with "California" and Meiko who hit #1 again with her 2008 hit, "Boys With Girlfriends". Other top indie hits included "The Other Side" by AM, "Bourgeois Shangri-La" & " I Heard of a Girl" both by Miss Li, "Natalie" by The NuRu and "Please Believe Me" by Darrin Kohavi.
The mainstream was well represented by stalwart hits "Fallin' For You" from Colbie Caillat, "Bad Romance," "Poker Face" and "Just Dance" by Lady GaGa, "Working on a Drream" by Bruce Springsteen, "Second Chance" by Shinedown and "No You Girls" by Franz Ferdinand.
Alternative rock and pop was on the chart with The Noisettes' "Never Forget You," Green Day's "Know Your Enemy" and "21 Guns" and Carolina Liar's "I'm Not Over." These and many more made the top 10, some going to #1, and all listed on the Top 100.
