CHART NOTES

Gotye's hit "Somebody I Used to Know" that has been bouncing around on many charts in the past 6 to 8 months finally breaks the hold Train had on the top spot and becomes the newest track to hit #1 on the Weekly Top 20. This song has an interesting video that also features Kimbra. See that one on the top of this post.

And yes, after 7 weeks of holding the #1 spot, Train slips to #2 this week with "Drive By".

Rounding out the top 3 we find Katy Perry at #5 with "Part of Me," Matt Cardle at #4 with "Amazing" and Fun at #3 with "We Are Young". All songs made a one point move up the chart.

Three songs make their chart debut. They are "Dancing Away With My Heart" a country crossover hit by Lady Antebellum at #18, "One Life" by James Morrison at #19 and "Love Bites (So Do I)" by rockers Halestorm at #20.

Classic Rock Again by Chaotic Five

Chaotic Five 4-14-2012

I was lucky enough to catch another free performance by Chaotic Five at the Ala Moana Center last night (April 14). Chaotic Five is billed as Hawaii's "youngest classic rock group" and for good reason. All of the songs they sing predate their own existence by at least 15 to 20 years, many songs much older.

Chaotic Five consists of five school aged kids less than 15 years old each. The group is fronted by female lead singers Chloe Salacup with lead guitarist Kalliyan Davis filling in from time to time. Rounding out the group are drummer Ethan Salacup, bass guitarist Caramon Ramos and Raistlin Ramos on keyboards and rhythm guitar.

The classic rock repertoire include covers of Queen, Judas Priest, Bon Jovi, Journey, Metallica, Blondie, Heart and more. The female singers give the songs a slightly different twist with all of the instrumentation, original and authentic to the way we remember the songs from the records.

Chaotic Five have played at a number of venues around Oahu including the Michael W. Perry  and Larry Price radio show on KSSK and interviews on Oldies 107.9 FM radio with Ed Kanoi. They have also been showcased in a series of youth rock concerts held at the Hard Rock Cafe.

The band maintains a Facebook website at:

CHART NOTES

Train locks on to the #1 spot again for a 7th consecutive week with "Drive By". We've gone without a new #1 song for almost 2 months. This song ties last year's most long stay at #1.... Late last fall Coldplay held on to #1 for 7 straight weeks with "Paradise". That song turned out to be the #1 song of the year on the year end Top 100 of 2011. Can Train accomplish the same feat for 2012?

Holding patterns: At #2 we find Gotye and Kimbra with "Somebody That I Used to Know," now there for the 2nd week in a row. At #3 we see The Asteroids Galaxy Tour and "Heart Attack" for a 2nd consecutive week. The song has compiled at least 4 non-consecutive weeks at the #3 position. Can it go any higher or is it doomed to be a #3 hit forever?

Be sure to check out Katy Perry's latest hit and video above. "Part of Me" moves up 2 from #8 to #6 this week.

Movers: Making some significant headway up the chart we find the following songs: "Glad You Came" by The Wanted moves up from #16 to #9 this week, a 7 point jump. Also jumping up 7 points is Carly Rae Jepsen's single "Call Me Maybe" moving from #17 to #10. Making a 6 point jump from #19 to #13 is Adele and her single "Rumour Has It".

There are no debut songs on the chart. Several songs are headed on a downward spiral and are likely to depart the top 20 by next week. Among them are "Hang It Up" by the Ting Tings at #18, "These Times" by SafetySuitat #19 and "Do It Our Way" by Alesha Dixon. All had good chart runs and should be listed in the year end chart for 2012 come this December.

CHART NOTES

Train holds on to the #1 spot for a 6th consecutive week with their latest hit "Drive By". Gotye's "Somebody I Used To Know" moves up a point from #3 to #2. The track features singer Kimbra near the end. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour move up one point from #4 to #3 with "Heart Attack". The song slid a point last week. I guessMadonna's slip this week made up for that. She is at #4 with "Give Me All Your Luvin'" which until last week, held the #2 spot for 4 weeks in a row. Rounding out the top 5 we find Fun and their single, "We Are Young" holding at #5 for a second week.

Elsewhere on the top 20, we find incremental moves throughout the chart, either up or down by the week's popular songs.

Two debut tracks this week include Adele's latest single "Rumour Has It" at #19 while Nicki Minaj enters with her dance/rap hit "Starships" at #20. How high these songs go is anyone's guess.
